Cleethorpes man jailed after knife attack on flatmate

A Cleethorpes man who violently attacked his flatmate with a knife in an unprovoked attack in April this year has been jailed.
Matthew Dalby, aged 37 of Grimsby Road, Cleethorpes was sentenced on Tuesday 12 September after pleading guilty to threatening a person with bladed article, possession of a blade, threats to kill, affray, criminal damage and possession of class C drugs.
On the morning of Tuesday 4 April, Dalby was told by his landlord that he had been evicted.
Later that day, at 4.50pm, we received a 999 call from a man reporting that his flatmate, Dalby had returned to the flat, was heavily intoxicated and had attempted to stab him.
The man fled the area and was followed by Dalby who attempted to stab him again outside of Papa John’s takeaway. A member of the public then intervened, sounding their vehicle horn in an attempt to distract Dalby so the man could flee to safety.
Dalby then followed the man back to the property on Grimsby Road and began stabbing at and causing damage to the door.
Detective Constable Jak Shepherd said: “This was a violent attack which I have no doubt will leave a lasting effect on the innocent man involved and members of the public who witnessed they events unfold.
“I hope the outcome at court provides the community with some reassurance that violent assaults will not be tolerated, and we will do everything we can to seek justice for victims to ensure our residents feel safe and criminals are punished.”
Dalby has been sentenced to four years and five months in prison.
