Man suffers head injury after Gilbey Road ‘altercation’

Two men are in police custody after a man sustained a serious head injury in Grimsby last night, Saturday 3 February.

Police were called to the scene at around 23:00 following reports that four people had been involved in an altercation on Gilbey Road, resulting in a 39-year-old man reportedly being assaulted.

Upon attending, the 39-year-old man was found to have suffered a serious head injury and was immediately taken to hospital to receive medical treatment.

Three other people are believed to have fled the scene. Two men were located and arrested a short while after at a property on Gilbey Road. The men, aged 48 and 49, were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

The road has been cordoned off for most of the day today, Sunday 4 February, with paramedics, uniformed officers and crime scene investigators all seen at the location at different times.

Detective Inspector Scott Miller said: “We are currently in the early stages of our investigation, but I would like to reassure people that we do believe this to be an isolated incident between individuals known to each other.

“A scene guard is currently in place whilst officers conduct lines of enquiries to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. I would ask anyone who has any concerns to please do come speak to us.
