Volunteers for Harbour Place are gearing up to host the third annual ‘sleep out’ event to raise funds to support people who are homeless or less fortunate.

The past two events have been organised by Grimsby Food Kitchen, with both proving hugely successful. Speaking to Gi Grimsby News last year, a spokesperson for the charity which provides food for people in need across North East Lincolnshire, explained how the cost of living crisis was driving more and more people through their doors.

This year’s event is being hosted by Harbour Place which similarly provides accommodation and support for those who are homeless or in need.

They wrote: “Harbour Place is a local Registered Charity supporting the homeless and those who are vulnerably housed. Their primary mission is to reduce and ultimately end rough sleeping on the streets of our community and to support those without a permanent home to find and sustain one.

“In addition to the Night Shelter (which operates 365 nights of the year) they provide an Outreach Service working in the community with those living on or near the streets. Experienced support workers provide advice and advocacy services, assisting with housing applications, benefit issues, and signposting to health and harm reduction services.

“Unfortunately, their services are in even greater demand than ever and our participation will help them make a difference to so many more people in our community.”

All funds raised will go towards supporting service users at Harbour Place.

The event will take place on Friday 16 February in Freshney Place car park. Registration closes on Thursday 8 February, so there is still plenty of time to decide to take part.
