Escaped owl reunited with owner

A lost owl who found itself in the care of Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue has been reunited with its owner.

The organisation launched a social media appeal to help find the owner yesterday after the bird was brought to them by a member of the public. A spokesperson said the owl was in “fantastic condition,” adding that it is clear he hadn’t been missing for very long.

Despite numerous attempts to reach the owner using the number on the owl’s identification ring, volunteers were unable to find its home. Fortunately, through the power of social media the owner was identified within hours and the barn owl, whose name we now know is Poppy, will soon be on her way home.

Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue said:  “We’re happy to let you all know that, with the power of social media, the correct owner has made contact!

“The ring didn’t hold the latest information, so there is also a big thanks in order to The Independent Bird Register for going through the paperwork and history to ensure that the person who came forward is correct owner. They are also working with the owner to update the ring.

“We now know that the Barn Owl is called Poppy, and Poppy was very popular with the team at Abbey Vets when having a health check with our vet!

“Many people came forward in hopes that this was their lost barn owl, so if you’re registered with The Independent Bird Registry, we urge that you regularly check that your details are accurate so we can reunite you with your bird should it ever get lost.”
