Man in custody after attack on police officer

A man has been charged after he was caught stealing from a shop in Cleethorpes before threatening one person and attacking at least two others.

Police were called to Tesco Express on Grimsby Road in Cleethorpes in the evening of Sunday 4 February after it was reported that a man had stolen approximately £100 worth of items, attacked a staff member and threatened a member of the public. The suspect was apprehended, at which point witnesses saw him assault a police officer.

Humberside Police have now confirmed that Paul Pearce, aged 34, of Lovett Street, Cleethorpes was charged with two counts of theft, assault, using threatening behaviour and assaulting an emergency worker.

A spokesperson for the force said: “A man has been charged following a reported theft from Tesco Express on Grimsby Road, Cleethorpes.

“Paul Pearce, aged 34, of Lovett Street, Cleethorpes was charged with two counts of theft, assault, using threatening behaviour and assaulting an emergency worker.

“Officers were called on Sunday 4 February to reports approximately £100 worth of items had been taken without payment.

Whilst attempting to retrieve the items, a member of staff is believed to have been assaulted and a member of the public threatened.”
