A bank in Grimsby is among 18 nationally which have been earmarked for closure this year, and is set to close its doors for the final time next month.
The news comes after Barclays announced it would be closing a third of its UK network between 2023 and 2024. We now know this includes the Victoria Street branch.
A statement issued by Barclays said: “Lots of people are choosing to bank differently these days, which means not as many are using branches. Because of this, we’re changing the ways we support people in your area.
“The decision to close a branch is never easy and we appreciate it might not be welcome news, but we’ll make sure you still have access to our banking services.
“Back when we opened this branch, visiting us in person was one of the only ways to do your banking. Now, as there are lots of ways to manage your money without even leaving your home, we’re seeing many customers choosing to bank using our app, and Online or Telephone Banking. This has had a big impact on the number of customers coming in to see us.”
According to data released by the company, fewer than 10 customers use the branch regularly as the only way to do their banking, and 93% of people who use the branch have also banked using the app. online and by phone.
Barclays bank on Victoria Street will close on the 13th of March.
