Man in court after Gilbey Road attack

A man has been charged with GBH after another man suffered a serious head injury following an incident in Grimsby last week, Saturday 3 February.

Police were called to the scene at around 23:00 following reports that a number of people had been involved in an altercation on Gilbey Road, resulting in a 39-year-old man being assaulted. On arrival officers discovered that he had suffered a serious head injury. He was immediately taken to hospital to receive medical treatment.

Three other people are believed to have fled the scene. 

Two men were located and arrested a short while after at a property on Gilbey Road. The men, aged 48 and 49, were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

As reported by Gi Grimsby News at the time the road was cordoned off for most of the following day, Sunday 4 February, with paramedics, uniformed officers and crime scene investigators all seen at the location at different times.

Since then, Robert Wojnicki, aged 48, of Gilbey Road has been charged with grievous bodily harm. He appeared at Grimsby Magistrates Court yesterday, Thursday 8 February, and was remanded into custody to appear at a later date.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “We were called at around 11pm to reports that four people had been involved in an altercation on Gilbey Road, resulting in a 39-year-old man reportedly being assaulted.

“Upon attending, the 39-year-old man was found to have suffered a serious head injury and was immediately taken to hospital to receive medical treatment.”
