Grim FalFest won’t return for 2024

Despite the undeniable popularity of the award winning Grim Falfest, it has been announced that the event will not be returning for 2024.

Grim Falfest was launched in 2022 as a celebration of Grimsby’s Viking heritage, and consisted of re-enactments, stalls and other entertainment. The event attracted more than 20,000 people in its first year.

Now, it is understood that funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund has now come to an end, meaning it won’t be possible for this years event to go ahead.

According to the project organisers, discussions with North East Lincolnshire Council, other funding bodies and local sponsors have been taking place since the last Grim Falfest in September 2023, but no resolution has been found.

Sharing the news to social media, a spokesperson for Grim Falfest wrote: “We had hoped to have a seamless transition so that planning could begin by our team, as well as the groups and organisations that bring the event together.  Sadly, this hasn’t been possible.”

They added that discussions are ‘ongoing’ and that is hoped the event will return in the future.
