Coastguard called to beach as woman stuck in the mud

Cleethorpes Coastguard were called to the beach earlier this week on Thursday 15 February following reports of a person stuck in the mud.

According to reports, a woman found herself stuck in the mud at around 15:15, resulting in emergency services being called out to the location. Fortunately she was safely located and recovered from the mud.

A spokesperson for Cleethorpes Coastguard said: “HM Coastguard responded to reports of a person stuck in mud in Cleethorpes yesterday, 15 February. Alerted at around 3.15pm, Cleethorpes and Donna Nook Coastguard Rescue Teams were sent to the scene. The casualty was located, extracted from the mud and recovered to safety.”

The incident is one of a growing list of emergency call-outs to people stuck in mud within the same area this year, and comes amid growing calls for better warnings to be put in place to prevent this from happening.

Despite this, North East Lincolnshire Council insists that precautionary signage in the area is adequate.

Speaking late last year a spokesperson for the authority said: “We have clear signage up warning about the dangers of the beach right the way along the promenade. People should take heed and be sensible about their use of the beach area. The high-risk areas of mud are patrolled regularly by the beach safety team to try and minimise and prevent any incidents.”
