‘Gridlock’ as roadworks cause chaos on Little Coates Road

A photograph has emerged shows the incredibly long queues and delays caused by roadworks at the junction of Little Coates Road and Laceby Road in Grimsby.

The work, which is being carried out by Northern PowerGrid, began earlier this week and will run until Friday 1 March. Temporary traffic lights and a lane closure are in place for the duration.

North East Lincolnshire Council said: “Northern Powergrid is carrying out new connection works on Little Coates Road from Monday 19 February until Friday 1 March.

“As a result of this, a lane closure will be in place on Little Coates Road heading southbound near the roundabout of the A46. Four-way temporary traffic lights will also be required during some parts of the works, but the dates for this are subject to the progress of initial excavation works.”

As seen in the photograph, queues have spanned the entire length of Little Coates Road. Motorists say the situation delayed their rush-hour journeys by around 20 minutes.

The project is just one of multiple ongoing roadwork schemes across North East Lincolnshire, resulting in frustration from motorists who have criticised the planning process.

Updates to follow.
