Local businesses battle ‘plague’ of roadworks

Businesses close to the vast amount of roadworks taking place in North East Lincolnshire say they are suffering at the hands of slow and disruptive work, with deadlines ever-extending and seemingly never coming into sight.

One such business is located near the current five-way traffic control point bordering the A1031 and North Sea Lane.

Speaking to Gi Grimsby News, the owner disclosed: “The customer count has declined massively. What we are earning currently isn’t enough to pay the rent and all the other bills we have to pay. Since the roadworks started, each month we have been in negative equity.”

They continued: “They said to us initially that it was only going to be until Christmas, but it keeps extending and extending.”

Furthermore, a representative for the business explained that it is severely affecting their customers, as they “aren’t happy” because they struggle to find and access parking and “can’t get into the shop”.

According to reports, the roadworks on North Sea Lane are part of numerous works carried out simultaneously, all by Cadent. Information from the North East Lincolnshire ‘Roadworks and Road Closures’ webpage indicates that the works in the area will be shifting to Church Avenue this month, and should be completed by the end of March.
