Work on an exciting new refurbishment project at one of Grimsby’s biggest community centres gets underway today, Monday 4 March.
Service users at Centre4, located on the Nunsthorpe, will benefit from a new visitor area which will include interactive booking screens, barista coffee and a dedicated support team.
The overhaul is made possible by a huge grant from FCC Communities Foundation.
Discussing the project, Centre4’s Chief Executive, Tracey Good, said: “This project will provide a real boost to each and every visitor who uses Centre4, from local families to community-based businesses and charities.
“It’s fantastic that FCC Communities Foundation has awarded us this money and we’re really looking forward to our Welcome and communal space taking shape over the next six months.
“This project is a complete renovation to the space where we welcome and meet and greet our community when they arrive at Centre4. The project will rethink the way we use the welcome area and communal spaces, offering a more welcoming space for visitors, our teams and tenants.”
Centre4’s Phil Drinkwater, who runs the organisation’s facilities, added: “It’s finding a better balance between room hire and lettings, which is needed to fund the centre’s running costs, and our determination to be a welcoming, comfortable and flexible place for people. That’s especially true for the most isolated and vulnerable residents.”
The update will no doubt come as welcome news to staff and service users, after the damaged became the target of an arson attack resulting in some areas being badly damaged back in August.
The new areas are expected to open to the public in the next few months.
