Road in Grimsby closed after ‘hand grenade’ discovery

Emergency services are on the scene on Frederick Ward Way in Grimsby following the discovery of what is thought to be a hand grenade in the River Freshney.

A scene guard is in place and the road is shut between Cartergate and Alexandra Road. 

According to reports, the article was found by a Grimsby woman who was magnet fishing in the River Freshney. Speaking to Gi Grimsby News, Natalie Blow said that she has been exploring waterways in Grimsby through the hobby for around four years. Today she uncovered a the grenade on her first cast, explaining that it is her best find so far and that she would never have expected to make such a discovery. 

Bomb disposal are understood to be on their way to the scene.
