‘Aggressive’ man sentenced after sequence of violent offences

A man who attacked a woman in her 30s leaving her with injuries to her face and then spat at and threatened the officers who came to her aid has been sentenced to 15 months in prison.

Lincolnshire Police received a call just before 6.50pm on 5 April from a member of the public, describing a disturbance, with reports of a man being drunk and aggressively shouting coming from a property in Chatsworth Drive, Louth.

The FCR immediately dispatched response officers. On arrival, they were met with physical and verbal threats from Robert Burton, 34, before he was detained.

He has also assaulted a woman. Burton, of Kingsley Road, Mablethorpe, was charged with Actual Bodily Harm (ABH), criminal damage, and three counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

He was sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court yesterday (Tuesday, 21 May).

He received 15 months in prison for the ABH, and a one month sentence for each of the other offences, which will run concurrently.

DCI Rachel Cox commended the work of all teams who contributed toward bringing Burton to justice by saying:

“The victim had stated that she was fearing for her life when Police attended. This was a really excellent job all round, well run by DI Mike Wilding and Sgt Sarah Wright. All the officers involved deserve recognition for their contribution to this successful outcome. From their resilience in the face of being verbally abused and spat at, to the threats to their life with a knife, they remained calm and kept victim safety at the forefront of their decision-making and actions.

“The tenacious follow up investigations undertaken by the Response Investigation team were also exemplary, and were conducted with empathy, clarity and determination. I am very proud of all who contributed toward this outcome.”

DI Mike Wilding who led on the overall investigation said, “We’d also like to thank all the teams who contributed toward bringing Burton to justice, in particular the Response and Response Investigation Team (RIT). Violence of this nature is wholly unacceptable in any situation, especially in our county, and we will continue to strive toward keeping Lincolnshire the safest place to live, work and visit.”
