Harbour Place building damaged after rooftop stand-off

The roof of two buildings at homeless shelter Harbour Place, located on Hope Street in Grimsby, has been partially destroyed after a person took to the roof last night, Tuesday 21 May.

Dozens on officers arrived on the scene to deal with the incident, with witnesses reported to have seen at least seven vehicles of the scene as well as a number of officers in riot gear. 

The building, which is used to house homeless people on a temporary basis, was evacuated while a road closure was enforced across the area.

The incident was finally cleared at around 6AM this morning, Wednesday 22 May, when it became clear that the majority of the roof has been destroyed causing thousands of pounds of damage.

Humberside Police have been contacted for further details – updates to follow.
