Police descend on Grimsby Town Centre after officer assaulted

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after ‘dozens’ of police officers responded to an incident on Victoria Street in Grimsby yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 21 May.

According to reports, police were called to the scene by an officer who alleged they had been assaulted and was in need of assistance. Eyewitnesses told Gi Grimsby News that they had seen “dozens” of police officers arrive at the location, with one reported to have pinned the suspect to the ground.

A 17-year-old boy was subsequently arrested on suspicion of three counts of assault of an emergency worker. He has since been released on bail.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after officers were called to attend Victoria Street in Grimsby at around 5.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 21 May).

“It is reported that an officer called for assistance after reportedly being assaulted and crews in the area responded. 

“A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of three counts of assault of an emergency worker and has since been released on bail whilst enquiries continue.”
