Heartwarming update as River Freshney Cygnets successfully hatched

Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue has shared a heartwarming update regarding the nesting swans in the River Freshney.

The team shared the news yesterday, Wednesday 22nd May, that the first signs of egg activity was noted by volunteers. They said by 21:07, the first cygnet had been recorded for a short period after hatching.

This followed 3 hours of “hard sitting” by the pen, but at 00:04, 5 confirmed cygnets successfully hatched.

Since then, the volunteers recorded yet another cygnet, bringing the total to 6.

Volunteers continue to monitor the new family with remote live CCTV and regular volunteer visits, however so far the team have been ‘pleased with how respectful visitors have been.’

A spokesperson for the rescue said If you visit them, please:

* Do not approach the barrier and keep behind the fencing.

* Do not feed on the nest, which would encourage rodent activity.

* Do not approach with dogs (even on a lead)

* Be quiet and respectful. * Place litter in the bin or take it home with you.

* If any cygnets approach the barrier, do not touch.
