Harry Clifton issues emotional statement as he departs GTFC

Harry Clifton has shared an emotional and heartfelt message as he prepares to leave Grimsby Town Football Club following the expiry of his contract.

Speaking via social media, he wrote: “This has been one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make, especially with so many people who have supported me over the last 10 years at the club. However I feel like the time is right to move on and I’m ready for a new challenge. There’s too many of you to list but I would like to thank everyone associated with the club who have been a part of my journey so far from the Academy, Youth Team, and First Team. You’ve been there for me, supported me, given me opportunities and helped shape where I am today.

“I never thought that after turning up at the training ground 10 years ago as a local youth team player, dreaming of playing for the first team that I would leave after playing so many games and experiencing so many special days.

“Promotion back to the EFL and reaching the FA Cup Quarter Final were obvious highlights. But there are plenty of personal moments along the way and I’m proud to have contributed to a part of the great history the club has.

“To the fans, you are up there with the very best and I want to thank all of you that have supported me from the very first day. I will never forget my first EFL start and my name being sang around Blundell Park for the very first time.I have never taken the support for granted ever since.

“The club is in the right hands and I am looking forward to watching it grow and progress from a distance. I wish you all the very best. It’s been an absolute pleasure to represent you as One of Your Own. Bye for now and UTM.”
