New car park adjacent to Toll Bar Academy given go-ahead

Proposals for a new car park adjacent to Toll Bar Academy have been approved following growing concerns about inadequate parking areas for drop-off and pick-up times at the school.

The new 55-space car park aims to deliver a new parking and drop-off zone, as the previous parking provision was removed as part of the new housing development nearby.

The local planning committee approved the plans with various conditions applied.

According to publicly available planning documents, “The design of the car park would be fit for purpose and made up of porous asphalt material with 54 formalised parking bays and concrete for the motorcycle bay.

“The provision would also include disabled parking bays and EV charging. Internal footpaths would be provided to the north to run alongside the dedicated drop-off zone to allow for pedestrian movements within the car park itself. To this boundary, a post and rail fence and hedging would be installed to demarcate the site to the footway along Station Road.”

Following concerns of anti-social behaviour from nearby residents, a management plan will be enforced with operating hours of 07:00–18:00 for the car park facility and 08:00–9:00 and 15:00–16:00 for the drop-off zone.

The restrictions and operating hours will reportedly be enforced by Civil Enforcement Officers.

It is expected that work will commence shortly.
