Pair arrested after ‘man attacked with golf club’

Two people have been arrested after a man was ‘attacked with a golf club’ yesterday, Wednesday 19 June. 

Police were called to Mill Road in Cleethorpes at around 12PM following reports of an assault. A verbal altercation is reported to have taken place in the street, resulting in a 34-year-old man reportedly being assaulted with a golf club.

The 34-year-old man was taken to hospital to receive treatment for a head injury, while the suspect is believed to have fled the scene in a vehicle.

Two men aged 27 and 54, were subsequently located on Corporation Road in Grimsby. Both were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and possession of controlled drugs.

The 27-year-old man has been released without charge in relation to the assault and bailed for the drugs offence. The 54-year-old man remains in our custody at this time.

Police have since launched an investigation. 

Detective Inspector Tom Kelly said: “Our enquiries are ongoing, and I would encourage anyone who was in the area around the time and may have witnessed the incident, or anyone who has any CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist with our enquiries, to please contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 214 of 19 June.”
