Healing Primary Academy pupils scoop up awards at car Event

Pupils from Healing Primary Academy competed in the Greenpower Goblin Car Event this week.

On Wednesday 19th June, 12 pupils from Healing Primary Academy competed in the Greenpower Goblin Car Event at the Ennerdale Leisure Centre’s cycle circuit in Hull.

The children raced in an electric kit car which was originally built by Year 6 pupils back in 2016 with the support of engineers and apprentices from HCF Catch in Stallingborough.

Since then, Mrs Nurse (Assistant Principal) has continued to drive the project forward with pupils, encouraging them to redesign and revamp the car’s bodywork and to race it at the annual event.

This year the team won two awards – 3rd place in the slalom race, recognising their accuracy and skill, and the award for ‘The Spirit of Greenpower’ for their rather enthusiastic support throughout the races.

Local businesses N3i and Country Style funded new parts for the car and the cost of transporting the pupils to the race.

Ethan (10) said “It was a once in a lifetime experience to drive the car.”

Violet (10) said “The best thing about the experience was meeting new people from other schools.”

Mrs Knight (Principal) said “We are so proud of this project which has spanned over 8 years. The experience continues to inspire our pupils and teaches them invaluable lessons of teamwork and leadership, as well as inspiring them to consider future careers in STEM.”
