Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust says its staff are focusing on maintaining urgent and emergency services amid ongoing junior doctor strike action.

The strike, which marks the eleventh episode of disruption amid an ongoing pay dispute between junior doctors at the British Medical Association and the Government, began at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby on Thursday 27 June.

It is expected to continue until 6.59AM tomorrow, Tuesday 2 July.

A number of appointments have been cancelled as a result.

Speaking last week, Dr Kate Wood, Group Chief Medical Officer for NHS Humber Health Partnership, explained that although “stepping down some routine care is regrettable,” it is “necessary as it allows us to focus on the most seriously ill/injured of our patients, allowing us to keep urgent, emergency care and cancer care services running.”

She stressed that although staff are now well rehearsed at dealing with strikes, five days of industrial action would “place further pressure on our already busy services.”

Hospital officials say they are now focusing their efforts “on maintaining our urgent and emergency services.” A spokesperson apologised to individuals and families who have been affected by cancellations.

People have been asked to seek help via GP surgeries and pharmacies, as well as via NHS 111 where possible for the duration of the strike. As always, call 999 in an emergency and attend A&E where appropriate.
