Popular store announces return to Freshney Place

Much-loved shoe shop Clarks has announced it will be returning to Freshney Place.

The update will no doubt come as welcome news to locals who were disappointed to see the retailer leave the area in October 2023 leaving Louth, Scunthorpe and Hull as the next closest stores.

The company did not give a reason for the closure, however speaking at the time, Queensbury, the London-based specialist which was appointed to deliver the regeneration of Freshney Place, said: “we have been working collaboratively to find Clarks a solution that meets their future needs, unfortunately Clarks has been unable to commit to Freshney Place at this moment in time. We continue to explore options that might meet their requirements.”

Now it would appear a solution has been found, with Clark’s set to reopen on Freshney Place’s Friargate in the coming weeks. An exact reopening date has not yet been confirmed.

A spokesperson for Freshney Place wrote: “You will be all super pleased to hear that Clarks will be returning to Freshney Place very soon! Keep an eye out for more information and an opening date! We look forward to welcoming you soon!”

Amanda Austin, centre director at Freshney Place comments: “We’re delighted to see Clarks opening its doors once again at Freshney Place. We have always maintained a close relationship with this retailer; and we’ve worked hard to find a location in Freshney Place to meet their ongoing requirements.

“We know this news will be very welcome for the local community. Clarks is a much-loved brand and a bastion of the high street. And, it’s fitting that they should be reopening at this time, as Freshney Place embarks on its redevelopment, transforming into a vibrant and contemporary retail and leisure destination for the future.”
