Humberside Fire and Rescue have issued a warning to malicious callers after they were called to Cleethorpes Pier only to discover that it was a hoax.
Yesterday, Tuesday 2 July, firefighters were called to Cleethorpes Pier following reports of a fire. Three fire engines arrived at around 7:37PM, where crew members checked all areas and discovered no fires or hotspots.
The call was determined to be a hoax.
Humberside Fire and Rescue has now issued a warning about the risks of making malicious calls.
A spokesperson said: “The Service would like to stress making hoax and malicious calls is a criminal offence. Such calls tie up emergency crews, so they are not available for real, potentially life-threatening incidents.
“All hoax and malicious calls are passed to the police as crimes. Tapes of the call, details of the incident and any witness statements will be provided as part of that criminal investigation.
“If you know of someone who makes hoax or malicious calls, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
