Care home plans at former Birds Eye Factory site approved

The former Birds Eye Factory site in Grimsby will now have a 70-bed care home after plans were approved.

The site, off Ladysmith Road, Grimsby, will have a three-storey care home and another two-storey block of eight one-bed apartments, from applicants Country Court Care LTD.

The plans have been approved during council planning, with no objections.

It is understood the care home will provide 35 jobs, and the care home will include a medicine room, nurses station, and day space areas, featuring a ‘winter garden’ on the top two floors.

The plans also include a car park with 30 spaces, including EV charging points.

The care home and accompanying block are proposed at the corner of the site.

After closing in 2005 a significant fire destroyed the majority of the factory, just two years later.

A planning document for the care home states:

“Despite the long-term marketing of the overall site (phased) there has been no interest in the development of the application site for apartments and commercial/retail premises.”

Country Court Care Ltd already run care homes in Lincolnshire, Peterborough, and Sheffield.

Council planning concluded the proposal would not ‘harm the area’ and ‘may support local businesses in the area’, and the plans were approved.
