Cleethorpes toilets set on fire twice in one week

Humberside Fire and Rescue were called to the temporary toilets in Cleethorpes yesterday, Thursday 4 July, after they were targeted by arsonists for the second time in one week.

Three of the units, which are located in the Pier Gardens, were damaged after they were set alight in the early hours of Tuesday 2 July. Firefighters have now been called to the location for a second time this week after one of the cubicles was reported to be on fire again.

Crews arrived at Alexandra Road at around 20:54, and the blaze was extinguished using a hose reel.

A couple of hours later they were called to another incident of suspected arson at The Jungle Zoo, marking the third case of arson in the resort inside of a week. It is currently unclear if the incidents are related.

Humberside Fire and Rescue said: “The incident on 4 July was in the same area and involved 1 portaloo, we received the call just before 9 pm and firefighters were on scene within 2 minutes and quickly put out the fire. Both incidents have been labelled as deliberate ignition.

“We understand the impact of these types of fires on the local community. If anyone has information regarding an incident of deliberate fire, you can tell us what you know, 100% anonymously. We are interested in what you know, not your identity.”

Anyone with information can call Humberside Fire and Rescue on 0800 169 5558.
