Investigation continues into historic Cleethorpes murder

Following the arrest of a man in connection with a historic murder investigation earlier this year, police are continuing their investigation.

On Friday, 10 June, 1983, Olive Wilkinson was found dead having sustained fatal injuries inside her family home on Montague Street, Cleethorpes.

In update shared by Humberside Police in May earlier this year, a spokesperson confirmed ‘ a number of new lines of enquiry’ were being explored, in connection with Olive’s murder.

The family of murder victim Olive Wilkinson, 36 released a never-before-seen photo of her after detectives relaunched their investigation in connection with her death in 1983 in Cleethorpes.

A murder investigation was launched following her death; however, despite extensive lines of enquiry and a number of renewed appeals the case has remained unsolved.

A cold case review of the investigation commenced in 2023 into the murder of Olive after detectives received fresh information in connection with her death, leading to the arrest of a 63-year-old man in May this year, on suspicion of murder and was released on conditional bail.

Following a number of searches across properties, Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Amy Keane-Christie said in May 2024 :

“As a part of that work, I am pleased that following our renewed appeal for information and at the conclusion of our searches, a number of new lines of enquiry are now being explored in connection with Olive’s murder.

“Whilst these are ongoing, I hope the release of Olive’s photo may help people remember her. I would still appeal to anybody who has any information, no matter how small, that thinks it may assist our investigation in some way, to please get in touch with us”.

“A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and has since been released on conditional bail whilst our investigations continue.”

You can report information anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or call the non-emergency number 101 quoting investigation reference log 69 of 21 May.
