Three retailers have come forward as part of plans to permanently reopen a Post Office branch in Immingham.
In June 2024, staff at the town’s Post Office announced the facility would be closing with immediate effect.
The announcement came as part of a long running saga where the facility had repeatedly opened and closed over an 18 month period.
The local branch was originally located in a McColls store, which shut when the business was sold back in January 2023. The facility was reintroduced on Kennedy Way two months later, but was forced to close again in February 2024 when the roof collapsed. The Post Office reopened for a third time back in April, but services have now been axed once again.
Locals said the situation had left them feeling “left behind” and “forgotten”.
There are now fresh hopes that a solution could be found in the coming months after three retailers came forward offering to host a permanent Post Office in the town.
A Post Office spokesperson said: “We are pleased to announce that there are three retailers who all want to open a permanent Post Office in Immingham. We are considering their applications to see which is the best option.
“We know how important a Post Office is to a community and we are working hard to restore service as soon as possible after the temporary branch regrettably closed. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the unplanned closure. In the interim alternative branches are South Killingholme and Healing.”
