Grimsby’s Riverhead building has been sold, restoring hope that something new could be brought to the prominent position in the town centre.
The property is among two included in the lot which were scheduled to go up for sale at auction earlier this month. Imperial House and the Riverhead block once housed a series of offices, popular bars and leisure facilities, but are now completely empty following the closure of the last occupants Play XL and PureGym earlier this year. The lot currently comprises five retail and leisure units and a substantial 5 storey office building. Prior approval has already been granted to construct 24 apartments at Imperial House, but it is unclear if this plan will go ahead.
The pair were advertised with a guide price of between £500,000 and £600,000. According to Acuitus Bespoke Sales & Consultancy, the lot sold before it could go to auction for a figure in excess of the guide price.
A spokesperson said told Gi Grimsby News that the exact sale price is confidential as it did not sell in the auction room, but stated that it sold “comfortably in excess” of the guide price.
North East Lincolnshire Council has confirmed it did not purchase the buildings.
Additional details, including who purchased the lot, are expected in the coming weeks.
