Representatives for Cleethorpes RNLI say work on the new £3m lifeboat station is “coming along nicely” with the roof now complete and elements of the ramp now being installed
Work on the £3m build first began back in April 2022. Once complete, the new lifeboat station will provide the capability to position a second lifeboat and enable the charity to respond more quickly, in a wider range of weather conditions, to a larger variety of incidents.
The project set to be completed this winter, with the team expected to move in early in 2025.
In a recent interview with Gi Grimsby News Matt McNally, RNLI Press Officer, said the recent additions of the roof and ramp block work are “really exciting because that helps show the overall shape of the building.”
He continued: “A high profile build like this in such a high profile location its always going to get a lot of attention. We love talking to people about it and telling people how’s its progressing. We are excited to move in.
“By Christmas we’re expecting to have the promenade clear and everything restored normal on the seafront. Then we’ll start the process of moving in.
“Obviously its not just the building, we’ve got to get the equipment in, procedures, work out how to use the building and what things need to be changed, how we’ll operate, how volunteers will get changed, carry out maitenance, cleaning down, the right way to manoeuvre the tractor about with the boats and things, and then go operational hopefully in the first half of next year.”
The RNLI recently hosted a site visit for their main donors in order to share a progress update.
Mr McNally concluded: “It’s good to see it all coming together. It’ll be great to get in there and see it as a finished building.”
