Local support group attracts over 600 women

A support group for women in North and North East Lincolnshire has attracted over 600 participants after gaining national media attention.

The ‘Lovely Ladies’ group was launched by local woman Laura Cooper last year and gained over 200 members in the first week.

In a previous interview with Gi Grimsby !News Laura explained how she hopes to help combat loneliness and mental health issues by bringing women together in a ‘safe new community.’

Several months on, the group has continued to grow, and has attracted national media coverage. It now has over 600 members from a range of age groups and backgrounds, and from across the country.

Laura said: “There’s some groups that have started off the back of this as well. I think its what we needed.

“It’s a nice vibe, and they’re all still making friendships and we’re still doing events and things. The Christmas party was a hit that was fantastic, very positive.”

Discussing the overwhelmingly positive reaction, she continued: “Messages have been coming through quick and fast. It’s just been really nice. The comments have been lovely, they all introduce themselves on the group chats now, and at the group on a Wednesday. I’ve had people come in from the group who have different jobs and hobbies who will get involved to talk about that.

“Theres a group starting in Waltham at the Windmill, they’re doing their own group but it’s called ‘Waltham Lovely Ladies’.”

More than 600 people now participating in Laura’s group.
