Corporation Bridge projects enters second year

As work on the Corporation Bridge enters its second year, North East Lincolnshire Council has announced closures of the footpaths on a series of dates in February.

The project, which began in February 2023, was initially expected to cost £5 million and be completed by late 2023. However, following the discovery of additional damage, the project’s completion was delayed and is projected for summer 2025. The total cost has still not been disclosed, and there are no updates on how this might affect funding for other local projects.

According to the Council, work on the control room is nearing completion, while grit blasting continues on Spans 5 and 6. Scaffold removal is also ongoing for Spans 2 and 3, with final painting now underway in those sections. Some areas have already been completed and are now painted.

As construction progresses, the south footway will be closed between 9AM and 4PM every Tuesday and Wednesday throughout February.

Some of the coverings have now been removed, providing the public with a view of the bridge which hasn’t been available for the past two years.

Gi Grimsby News asked North East Lincolnshire Council when the public can expect an answer regarding the cost of the Corporation Bridge works, but has not received an answer.
