Fox cub found at side of busy road given fresh start

A fox cub rescued from danger on a busy road in Holton-le-Clay has begun a new chapter of life surrounded by fellow young foxes.

Earlier this month, the cub – named Freddy by his rescuers – was spotted by a passersby, who quickly contacted the experienced team at Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue. Despite several attempts to reunite him with his mother, efforts were ultimately unsuccessful.

Freddy was then transferred to the RSPCA’s East Winch Wildlife Hospital, where he is now receiving expert care. There, he has joined a group of other orphaned cubs who have also experienced difficult starts in life.

In a recent update, the hospital shared its delight at Freddy’s progress, alongside that of his new companions.

“Our number of orphaned fox cubs is growing,” the statement read. “We have collaborated with other wildlife rescue organisations like Cleethorpes and South Essex with our fox cubs. They came in at 500g and we are thrilled at their progress in eating meat for themselves and being three times the weight now. One of these is the cheeky ‘Freddy’ who was rescued by Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue.”
