Restorations are underway for one of Weelsby Woods’ iconic lion statues.
Previously, one of the statues underwent a £10,000 repair and restoration at Lincoln Cathedral’s stonemasonry workshop after being severely damaged during a police chase. When it returned with a fresh new look, calls grew to restore the second lion to ensure the pair matched once again.
Friends of Weelsby Woods, the volunteer group that cares for the site, has said ‘it won’t be too long now.’
A spokesperson for the volunteer group said North East Lincolnshire Council had updated them on the project. The work is being completed at Booths Stonemasonry, in Lincoln.
A Spokesperson for Friends of Weelsby Woods said:
“Booths Stonemasonry put so much effort, time and research into their work, ensuring everything is as accurate and detailed as possible. We can not sing their praises highly enough!
“We are really looking forward to the updated face being fitted, and having our towns oldest statues be twins again!
“There is no definite date for the face being fitted, but it won’t be too long now!”
