Man arrested after setting house on fire in Grimsby

A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a house fire in Grimsby late last night.

The blaze broke out at a property on the corner of Wellington Street and Orchard Drive, with emergency services receiving the call at 10.50pm. Three fire crews were dispatched and arrived quickly to tackle the fire.

Humberside Police also attended the scene and placed a guard around the property as investigations got underway.

According to Humberside Fire and Rescue, the fire was contained to the kitchen area, though smoke caused significant damage throughout the rest of the home. One adult was assisted out of the house by firefighters, while all other occupants had already evacuated safely. No serious injuries were reported.

The incident has been confirmed as a case of deliberate ignition, with fire investigations continuing today.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “A man has been arrested after officers were in attendance on Wellington Street in Grimsby last night (Monday, 14 April).

At approximately 10.50pm, we were called to reports of a man setting fire to clothes inside a property, and upon officers arrival a 42-year-old man was identified and arrested on suspicion of arson.

“Thankfully, there were no other occupants inside the address and the incident was brought to a swift and safe conclusion.

“A scene guard remains in place at the address to allow officers and Crime Scene Investigators to carry out multiple lines of enquiries to establish the full circumstances around the incident.”
