Tributes pour in for beloved vet

Tributes have poured in online from family, friends, and the wider community for a beloved local veterinarian who sadly passed away earlier this week.

George Robert Cooper, 80, has been described as a “remarkable wildlife hero”, who helped countless in the community, including Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue in their early days.

The wildlife rescue service said in a tribute, “In our early days, Mr. Cooper helped make veterinary care more accessible for wildlife, and his support continues to this day.

“We could not have wished to meet a more caring, dedicated and supportive vet. With his old-school humour and unwavering kindness, Mr. Cooper was a true gentleman who saved countless wild lives. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.”

In a statement online, Clee Vets, who initially broke the sad news of Mr. Cooper’s passing, said: “With a heavy heart, we share the news of the passing of George Robert Cooper.

“A much-loved husband, father, granddad, uncle, and friend to many, George dedicated his life to his family, his friends and his work as a vet – a profession he continued with a passion. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.”

A service to commemorate Mr. Cooper will be held at the United Reformed Church on Weelsby Road at 2PM on Friday 2 May, with all welcome.

Clee Vets added: “Feel free to wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. George wasn’t a subdued person, and, if you’d like, a touch of tartan would have made his day.”
