Intermittent road closures will be in place for next three weeks as books are removed from Grimsby Library.
Earlier this month, North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) announced the library’s temporary closure due to “urgent works.” Lincs Inspire, which manages the site, said an alternative location would be sought during the closure.
The building reportedly suffered a water leak following heavy rainfall and is now undergoing immediate repairs. It’s also understood that asbestos is being removed from the premises.
As part of the process, books are being relocated to other council-owned buildings. NELC has confirmed that New Street will be closed off at intervals to allow for the safe removal and loading of materials.
A council spokesperson said: “This will allow the road to be closed off intermittently for approximately three weeks allowing specialist contractors to work in sealed areas of the building, packing up and loading the vast collections of materials.
“Blue badge parking on the street will be unavailable during the periods of closure, with signage put up.
“Contractors will ensure to move as quickly as possible and apologise for the inconvenience.”
