Hundreds have paid heartfelt tribute to Mick Blythin, a much-loved and respected boxing coach, after his sudden and tragic death last week.
Mick was found unconscious on Knoll Street in Cleethorpes on Thursday. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, he sadly could not be saved.
He leaves behind his wife Natalie, son Harry, and a wide circle of family, friends, and students who have described him as a “hero,” “unforgettable,” and a “true gentleman.” Many have spoken of how he “supported, motivated, and inspired countless people over the years,” both inside and outside the ring.
Cheyne Philips said: “For 20 years, Mick was more than a coach — he was my mentor, my friend, and someone I looked up to. His loss leaves a huge void in my life.
Mick, you’ll be sorely missed. I’ll carry your lessons with me always. Rest in peace, my friend.”
Jason Wilkins added: “Mick Blythin was more than a friend — he was a shining light to everyone he met. As our boxing trainer, he inspired and motivated us, but it was his kind heart and gentle spirit that truly made him special. He made us better just by being around. Mick will be deeply missed. Rest in peace, Mick.”
“I met Mick as very shy 10-year-old,” added Wayne Bloy. “He became such an important figure in my life and supported me when I needed it most, this is the same story for many people he that had crossed paths with him, he’ll be sorely missed and be remembered as a shining light. Rest in Peace Mick.”
“A true family man, a local hero, a thousand people would be able to say he was a best friend. An inspiration to anyone that knew him. My mentor, friend an older brother I never knew I needed,” added Andy Marrow.
A fundraiser has been set up to help cover funeral costs and expenses during this difficult time. It has already raised over £15,000.
