Local community space joins new Poo Bag Partner scheme

A local community hub in North East Lincolnshire has taken new steps to help tackle high levels of dog fouling in the borough.

According to North East Lincolnshire Council, over 280 fixed penalty notices were issued to individuals for dog fouling offences between September 2023 and August 2024.

Now, the newly-opened East Marsh Community Space is the first to sign up with the Poo Bag Partner initiative to help address the widespread issue of discarded dog waste.

Kerrie Bennett and Rebbeca Munson, who both run the space, have expressed their support for the scheme which enables dog owners to access dog waste bags for free at the location.

Kerrie spoke about the partnership, saying: “This is an amazing initiative and we’re so proud to be the business to launch it. Pet owners have a responsibility to pick up after their dog and now there is no reason they can’t, even if they do forget the bag.”

Councillor Henry Hudson, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Net Zero, added to Kerrie’s comments: “We appreciate the majority of dog owners are responsible, but it is the minority that need to understand that they have a duty of care as a pet owner. Dog mess is a blight on our borough’s streets and needs to be clamped down on. I welcome the Poo Bag Partnership and urge as many businesses as possible to sign up to the pledge to help keep our streets clean.”
