Victoria Atkins, MP for Louth and Horncastle, has met with bosses at Santander over concerns regarding bank closures in Louth.
Earlier this year Santander announced it would be closing 95 of its UK branches, putting 750 jobs at risk. The move includes the branch at 21 Market Place in Louth, which will be closing 17th of June.
The company is one of three banks in the town to announce plans to shut in recent months, prompting widespread concerns from residents.
As a result of the meeting, Victoria Atkins confirmed that a pop-up service will be held at Louth Library in place of the bank on a weekly basis.
In an update issued via social media, Ms Atkins wrote: “Today, I met with Santander representatives following the announcement of their branch closure in Louth. While it is disappointing to lose a full-time branch, Santander has confirmed that they plan to maintain a weekly presence in the town by operating a pop-up service in Louth Library one day each week.
“Santander explained that they are still liaising with Lincolnshire County Council and finalising the details on this,” she explained. “So I would be grateful if local residents who bank with Santander could let me know which day works best for them, so I can pass this information on.”
Ms Atkins continued: “Residents can continue to withdraw cash at the Post Office branch, and Santander customers can use their cards and banking apps as usual.“
