GALLERY: North East Lincolnshire marks 80th anniversary of VE Day

People across North East Lincolnshire came together today, Thursday 8 May, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

On 8 May 1945, celebrations broke out across Europe as Germany unconditionally surrendered to Allied forces, marking the end of World War II in Europe. Eight decades later, the milestone is being honoured across the borough and the nation.

In Cleethorpes, veterans, residents, and local MP Melanie Onn gathered at the memorial gate and outside the Knoll – home to the Armed Forces Team – where a flag was raised in tribute to those who served and sacrificed during the war. Wreaths were also laid at local armed forces memorials.

Elsewhere in the area, the anniversary was marked with community services, remembrance events, and street parties.
