Youth support service opens new Grimsby site

A new support service for young people has opened in Grimsby.

The Haven, which was originally set up on Osborne Street to help tackle anti-social behaviour in and around the area, has been relocated to Queen Street ahead of demolition work at the original site.

According to North East Lincolnshire Council, the scheme has proved largely successful, leading to the council continuing the initiative with a new facility in the town.

The new site will offer young people a safe space to meet, enjoy a range of activities, and access specialist services such as We Are With You, Young and Safe, as well as staff from the Journey, Enrichment, Fulfilment and Friendship project. Not in Education or Employment (NEET) practitioners will also be on hand to provide additional support.

Speaking on the launch of the facility, Ann Marie Matson, Director of Children’s Services for NELC, said: “I’m really pleased to see this offer being developed further in our town centre, making sure that our young people have somewhere to go when they feel lost or are struggling. It’s important that these services are accessible to our young people, and that they feel that they can access them in a really easy way, whenever they need them, without fear of being judged.”

Margaret Cracknell, Portfolio Holder for Children and Education, also added: “The new building is fantastic and has clearly been redeveloped with young people in mind. I’m confident that they will make use of this critical resource and take advantage of the valuable information, advice and guidance on offer here.”
