A petition calling for action to tackle the “simply unacceptable” noise level on the A180 has been signed by over 800 people.
The campaign, led by Melanie Onn, MP for Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes, was launched last month amid long-spanning complaints about the condition, noise and driving experience on the road.
Melanie Onn first raised the issue in Parliament in September 2024, stating that poor rail and road connections were holding back investment in the region. She added that “industrial-level noise from the A180 has been ignored for too long”, and called for “urgent action” to repair the “noisy, crumbling road” and “end the unacceptable disruption to our community.”
The petition has since been acknowledged by National Highways. They have already undertaken works to repair the carriageway and extend its lifespan.
It is understood that a full replacement scheme has been outlined in National Highway’s road investment strategy for the next five years, with an estimated cost of £300m.
The petition can be found here.
