Laser pen shone at helicopter as police searched for missing person

A man has been arrested after a laser pen was directed at a police helicopter as officers conducted a search for a missing person.

Shortly before 10pm on Thursday 15 May, Humberside Police received a report from the helicopter crew, who were flying over the Grimsby area. The crew reported that a laser pen was being shone at them, impairing their vision during the ongoing search operation.

An investigation was immediately launched, and a 23-year-old man was quickly identified and arrested on suspicion of two counts of shining a laser beam at a vehicle or aircraft.

He remains in police custody at this time.

Humberside Police are now appealing for further information.

A spokesperson said: “If anyone has any information that may assist with our enquiries, please contact us on our non-emergency number 101, quoting log 530 of 15 April.”
