Travellers set up camp in Cleethorpes

A group of travellers has moved several caravans onto a car park behind Parkway Cinema in Cleethorpes, occupying a significant portion of the space off Kings Road.

The group had previously been stationed at a commercial site on Moody Lane in Grimsby but were removed from that location yesterday.

Humberside Police say they are now working in collaboration with North East Lincolnshire Council to address the situation.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Peter Musgrave told Gi Grimsby News: “My Neighbourhood Policing team continue to support and work in partnership with the local authority whilst travelling families are encamped in a car park on Kings Road, Cleethorpes.

“As is always the case, my team are out on patrol in the areas where it is needed, listening to any concerns of the local community and engaging with the families at the site. If you do see our officers and have any concerns, please come and speak to us.”

At this stage, it is unclear whether local businesses have been affected.

A North East Lincolnshire Council spokesperson said: “We’re aware of the unauthorised encampment in Cleethorpes. It is on privately owned land, which means that it is the responsibility of the landowner to take the necessary legal steps to evict them. The Council is working with the police and the landowner to assist where possible.”
