Melanie Onn, MP for Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes, has called on residents to support a petition to ensure that the National Armed Forces Day event returns to Cleethorpes in 2026 after a 10-year absence.
The Labour MP urged the public to get behind the campaign to bring the national event back to the region, highlighting the town’s strong connection to the armed forces and its previous success in hosting the celebration.
Melanie Onn said: “We want as many people as possible to participate in creating pressure on the Secretary of State for Defence to make sure that we bring next year’s Armed Forces Day, the National Armed Forces Day, right here to Cleethorpes. He has agreed to receive it in person.”
She continued: “The more support that you can give so that we can bring people to our fantastic resort and hopefully make sure that next year’s Armed Forces Day is the biggest that the country has ever seen and do everything that we can to get all areas of Cleethorpes, including the North Prom, at the heart and centre of Armed Forces Day.”
Onn emphasised the importance of community backing to showcase Cleethorpes as the ideal host town, highlighting the event as an opportunity to boost tourism while honouring the armed forces.
