Post Office reopens in Immingham after a year without services

A new Post Office has opened in Immingham, almost a year after the town’s last branch closed its doors.

The reopening was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday 30 May, led by Councillor Malcolm Cullum, Mayor and Chairman of Immingham Town Council.

Business partners Mohammed Moyeed and Sami Syed decided to relaunch the franchise after taking over Immingham Pharmacy on Kennedy Way in August. Their decision has restored vital Post Office services to the town, following 18 months of uncertainty and disruption.

Immingham’s Post Office was originally located within a McColl’s store, which closed in January 2023. A temporary branch reopened on Kennedy Way in March 2023 but was forced to shut in February 2024 after a roof collapse. Although it briefly resumed operations in April, the service was again suspended, leaving residents without a functioning Post Office from June 2024 until now.

Mayor and Chairman, Councillor Malcolm Cullum, said: “On behalf of the people of Immingham I really want to thank Mohammed Moyeed and Sami Syed for their investment into their shop – first safeguarding a pharmacy in the town and now adding Immingham Post Office. They have only recently arrived but they are already making a big difference to the lives of people in Immingham. They care about their customers.”

Postmaster Mohammed Moyeed said: “People are really delighted that they have a Post Office and a pharmacy under one roof providing services that people really need.

“Sami and I took on the shop in August and people have been really welcoming. Our customers in Immingham are lovely – they really are the loveliest people that we have served in many places across the country. People are very appreciative of what we are doing. We are really happy here. I came from Peterborough where it is really flat and I really like the scenery here.

“There used to be three banks in Immingham and they have all gone, so we do a lot of banking transactions on behalf of all the major high street banks and cash withdrawals.

“We have built up the pharmacy side of the business adding holiday vaccines alongside normal jabs. So, we are now a one stop destination for people going on holiday with jabs, toiletriesand people can get Euros on demand or other foreign currency on pre-order, or to top up their Post Office Travel Money Card. The pharmacy and Post Office work well alongside each other and they support each other.”

There are two Post Office counters within the store. They are open Monday – Friday between 9AM and 6PM, and between 9AM and 1PM on Saturday.
