Police in Lincolnshire have launched an investigation after several tents were set alight, including one which was occupied by a homeless man at the time.
The incident, which occurred in Grantham in the early hours of Tuesday 3 June, was quickly extinguished, and has since been ruled to have been started deliberately – it is being treated as a suspected arson with intent to endanger life.
Fortunately the 40-year-old occupant did not sustain any serious injuries.
Officers are now appealing to anyone who was in the South Lodge Park area at around 01:48AM on the day of the incident to get in touch.
A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said: “We are now asking for your help. The area is sheltered by trees, and we know that the time of morning this happened will mean witnesses are limited.
“We need you to check CCTV, ring doorbell, or dashcam of the surrounding roads and footpaths close to The Paddocks to see if it captured anyone in that area either on foot, in or on a vehicle or any kind around the time of the offence. The timescale we are looking for is between 1.30am and 2.15am.
“If you have any other information, we would also like to hear from you. Please get in touch by emailing our detectives on NSKCID@Lincs.police.uk and quoting incident 20 of 3 June. You can also call 101 and ask to be put through to the duty Sergeant at Grantham CID quoting the same incident number.”
