Beachgoers are being warned to take care after venomous weever fish were spotted on beaches across the region.
Common in UK waters during the summer, weever fish bury themselves in the sand, making them hard to see. They typically sting when accidentally stepped on, causing intense, radiating pain, along with symptoms such as swelling, nausea, headaches, and itching.
Sightings have been reported in Cleethorpes and Humberston in recent years, and beach users are being urged to stay cautious and wear protective footwear in shallow water.
Anyone stung should rinse the affected area with seawater, use tweezers to carefully remove any spines, and soak the area in hot (but not scalding) water to ease pain. Avoid cold compresses, touching spines with bare hands, or covering the wound.
