Police have issued an appeal to pet owners following reports of cats being mysteriously shaved in northern Lincolnshire.
Although no formal complaints have been made, Humberside Police officers in Barton say they are aware of growing concern online and are treating the matter seriously. Officers urged cat owners in the area to come forward if they have been affected, so that incidents can be properly investigated.
“This could be an emerging trend and potentially something worthy of a problem-solving investigation,” the force said. “It’s vital that we understand the cause, reason, and any potential link between the incidents.”
Similar incidents occurred in another Lincolnshire town earlier back in February.
Police stressed the importance of official reporting rather than relying on social media, which they warned can lead to “fake news” and unnecessary alarm within the community.
By collecting accurate reports – including dates, locations, and times – officers say they will be better able to map any patterns and determine whether any criminal offences have been committed.
Anyone affected is asked to request their details be sent to Sgt Jackson (2373) when calling the non-emergency number 101.
